Panic to Relief: Eastbourne Pier Escapes Major Blaze After Fish and Chip Shop Fire
EVERYONE was talking about the fire at Eastbourne Pier on Sunday morning – and initially there were fears of another huge blaze at this iconic site.
Fortunately, it turned out to be a small accidental fire in the fish and chip shop.
Eastbourne Life was pleased to meet up with photographer Sy Martin, who has produced a brilliant album of videos and pictures, which we share in this Newsletter.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue was first called at 10.24am. Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene, with firefighters carrying out a full evacuation.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used firefighting foam to tackle the fire while working to prevent it spreading to other parts of the pier.
Smoke was seen pouring from a fish and chip shop at the front.
Pier management has thanked emergency services for such a swift response.
