The Rattonians are performing ‘Come From Away’ next week at the Hippodrome Theatre – here’s all you need to know

THERE is no doubt that the standard of productions from local theatre groups in Eastbourne is outstanding.

The Rattonians have been entertaining us for more than 40 years, and next on their agenda is Come From Away, at The Royal Hippodrome Theatre from July 29 to August 1.

When you mention The Rattonians, you immediately think of Mel and Mark Adams, who were there at the very start and still remain very much involved to this day.

But of course, there is a wide range of extremely talented performers who make the group what it is today.

Many people can be heard to say after watching their shows – ‘Are they really amateur’ because their performances are so professional from start to finish.

Mel says that Come From Away is indeed a step away from what many expect from The Rattonians.

She said: “Our summer productions tend to be large scale song and dance big hit musicals that are familiar, and our audiences love to watch.

“This year, we have decided to do something slightly different, and Come From Away is the most amazing true story told on the stage in a most amazing way.

“It won many awards in the West End and on Broadway – including a Tony Award and four Olivier Awards”

Some 7,000 stranded passengers in one small town. Countless acts of kindness follow. It’s based on the remarkable true story that captured hearts around the world when the airspace over the USA was closed in September 2001.

Mel said: “It’s a musical filled with hope, humanity, laughter and unforgettable music, and we are thrilled to be staging this at The Royal Hippdrome.

“We say this every year but live theatre depends on live audiences and we do depend on the support of the public.

“We can guarantee an absolutely top class performance from the team, and of course where better to be than at The Royal Hippodrome.”
